I vs. Me

Improper use of "I" and "me" seems to be a staple of reality TV. So I'm writing this post to help people understand how to use these pronouns. My hope is that I won't hear this very common mistake quite so frequently. Simply stated, "I" is used when it is the subject of the sentence or renames the subject; "me" is used when it is the object. In the example below, Sawyer and I/me are acting as the subjects of the sentence. Sawyer and ( I or me ) have been married for three years. (Tip: Cut out "Sawyer and" and see which pronoun sounds right) Correct Answer: I In this example, "she" is the subject because "she" is doing the asking. Lisa and I/me are acting as the objects. She asked Lisa and ( I or me ) to be bridesmaids at her wedding. Correct Answer: me

Answers to Questions

1/4/10--Quiz Of the Day (imply vs. infer)

Use the forms of imply or infer to complete the following sentences.

1. Because of the many legal books on her desk, we can infer that she is studying to become a lawyer. (present tense)
2. The job interview went well and the woman implied that there would be a second interview. (past tense)
3. Based on her standoffish nature toward men, we inferred that she had been hurt in the past. (past tense)

12/16/09--Quiz Of the Day (Lie vs. Lay)

Use the forms of lie or lay to complete the following sentences.

1. She laid the platter carefully on the table. (past)
2. She lies about everything; you can't trust a word that comes out of her mouth. (present)

11/24/09--Quiz Of the Day (it's vs. its)

Use It's or Its to complete the following sentences.
